A little while ago, [livejournal.com profile] eirenebellatrix asked about me posting some of my work from my recent classes where I had to do some digital illustration for the first time ever. I've been meaning to share some of it, and since my entries lately have been so RL-heavy and work and blahhh, I thought now would be a good time! :)

Click them to see them a little bigger!

This is the first thing we had to do, and the first thing I ever drew in Illustrator! Although I use "draw" sort of lightly, since what we actually had to do for this assignment was play around with the pathfinder tool (which can be used to combine shapes, cut into them to make other shapes, etc.). We were required to make something using absolutely nothing but shapes and that tool, we couldn't actually draw anything. So this was my first experiment :)

This was the first thing I actually drew in Illustrator :) We were supposed to search through other illustrators, pick one, and try to mimic some element of their style. I cannot for the life of me remember the artist I picked now, but what I liked about their work was that some part of all of their images blended into the background completely. So that's what I was going for here.

(We weren't allowed to use color, btw XD And the person in the photo is Kim's boyfriend Dan. Original photo is here)

I can't remember what the point of this assignment was, but I'm guessing it had something to do with creating texture.

This was working with gradients and reshaping~

Working with creating depth through transparency~

This assignment made me cry. My assignments are all due by 5am - it's 3am mountain time, they give us a three hour grace period, which is pretty nice. This assignment? I did not turn it in until 5:30am, even though I had started it around 6pm the night before. RIDICULOUS. I AM ABSURD. It was meant to be a simple assignment, where we were just required to use brushes and washes, and one pattern (hence, the cheesy waves). We had to use a photo that we had taken, and this was from one that I took in Spain. I don't know what I was thinking. The rope alone took forever. But I'm kind of happy with how it turned out :)

This was my favorite. We were only allowed to use three colors, max.

The rest of these were all based on our final project, which required us to pick a book, and design a cover for it. I picked The Night Circus, since I had just read it recently and it was still pretty fresh in my mind. Throughout the class, we had to design little things based on our lessons that related to our books in some way, whether we would incorporate it into our final design or not. So that's what these all are:

(That title text was handwritten by me, but if it had been up to me, I'm not sure I would have used that 3D effect on it. That was required for a different assignment, and then we were required to use it for the final >.<)

I have another class like this coming up soon, so I'm sure I will have more to post after it :)

Are you still living there
Walking the streets with your hollow stare
You say there's loneliness everywhere
So we have nothing to lose
The music plays all day long
And sorrow looks beautiful
And lovers seem mystical
Tomorrow a new point of view
These bright lights will bend to make blue
Now this can all look new to you
